  • The Redjacket roasters (in 5 Models) are intentionally designed to operate “continuous flow” without supervision yielding from 2400 lb. to 14,400 lb. of roasted product in 24 hours of operation.
    Typically, our customer would make a permanent set up with a supply source to feed the hopper, either by gravity or a fill switch-controlled auger. He would start the machine and allow to run for a number of days around the clock to accumulate a couple weeks or months supply, use of the supply and start again when supply becomes low. The size of machine he chooses would be determined as one that would be able to roast
    at least his maximum demand if running continuously. We recommend targeting average daily need to be 75% of roaster capacity.
    Requirements for a building would be a roof over the operation and 3 walls in colder climates, (this is not considered an all-weather machine). Fully enclosed buildings require exhaust fan for ventilation, typically 20 gallons of water vapor are produced per ton roasted. Other requirements are, a supply to feed the hopper such as a gravity wagon or bulk bin, and something to receive the roasted product. Both the supply and discharge end must have enough capacity for the unattended interim. A very simple solution for the outlet is to roast onto the concrete floor and allow natural air flow through the room to carry away the heat and moisture as the
    heap grows. The accumulation can be pushed into a commodity bin with a skid steer or scooped up and measured into mixer wagon as needed. No other special provision for cooling should be needed.
  • Roasting directly into a container or conveyed to such may require some additional air to cool somewhat. A large closed container may experience moisture condensation on walls and ceiling. A little forced air exchange can easily take care of this.
    For a greater degree of automation there are plenty of options to move the product and get air on it. One we offer is our 640C cooling hopper that stabilizes the product temperature and moisture and conveys it to storage or bagging hopper, etc. This option is fully integrated into the roaster controls on 1044, 2044 models for seamless operation and precise process management.
    2044D machines, or available as a stand-alone unit.
    The model 540 is our smallest and most budget friendly machine. To keep costs down, the control panel features minimal instrumentation and is not UL certified There are safety features incorporated in all machines such as motor overload and oven overheat switches that shut down the machine entirely and requires
    operator intervention to correct issue before restarting. There is also a hopper supply interruption switch that will start the
    process of shutting down. With this system the oven heaters are first shut off and the conveyor (auger) through the oven runs to empty the oven and stops at a predetermined oven low temperature. It requires 240v-60amp service and will draw approx. 45 amps intermittently. The temperature controller mounted in the power control panel is operator’s means to set oven temperature which determines “roast” level. The crop is conveyed through the length of the oven at a rate of approximately 100 lb. per hour. Dwell time in the oven is
    approximately 5 minutes, exposed to oven temperatures up to 700 degrees F, which will give the crop a roast temperature of 270-300 degrees. The fixed auger speed and fixed inclination angle of 25 degrees of the oven with operator adjustment of the oven temperature give very good results in roasting soybeans, corn, and
    most other cereal grains.
    The  2042 model operate very much the same as the 1040. These control panels are UL certified,
    include hr. meters and accumulated KWH usage meters, and are designed to be wall mounted. The 1044 is rated at 100 amps, 240v, 1ph with a maximum draw of approximately 66 amps intermittent and the 2042 is rated at 200 amps, 240v, 1ph with maximum draw of 128 amps. The yield of the 1042 is approximately 150 pounds per hour and the 2042 is 300 pounds an hour.
    The 1044 and 2044 are advanced versions of the 1042 and 2042 with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) touch screen controller. They have capabilities of variable speed auger through the oven, 2 independently controlled heat zones, capability of interfacing with auto supply conveyor and 640C cooler. The PLC will record data such as accumulative power usage, error codes and re-settable hour meters. They are compatible with
    systems of higher degree of automation and have more flexibility for use in heat treating a wider variety of products including pelleted products or small seeds such as flax.
    The 2044D is a pair of 2044 roasters built as a unit, each controlled entirely independent of each other but out of one control panel. It requires 480v 100amp 3-phase service (80amp FLA, Full Load Amp) and yields a total of 600 pounds per hour.
    The roller mill attachments are mounted at the outer end of the roasters where they are rolling the product while it is still hot and therefor soft and resilient. This means it is not easily ground into a fine feed at this point, but rather cracked or somewhat flattened depending on the roll spacing. With this, fines can be kept to a minimum. This seems to be desirable for ruminant animals, especially dairy cows. We do not recommend our
    roller mills for non-ruminant animals.
    The 250R has two, 2 ½” diameter rolls. It is driven by the same motor as the roaster auger. It can be ordered with the 1040,  and 1044 or field installed on the 1040 It does not have enough capacity to be used with the larger machines.
    The 600R uses two 6” diameter rolls and has its own motor. This unit may be ordered with all the roaster models for control integration into the roaster panel. The 640C cooler is available with or without a discharge auger and drive motor which can sometimes be purchased locally from a Choretime distributor to simplify shipping. We highly recommend cooler to be included in the initial roaster panel build for full integration and functionality on the 1044, 2044, and 2044D machines.
    The hopper extension is available to give the hopper more depth which may be necessary for some auto fill systems.
